Vincent Sheppard Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Lloyd Loom Weaving

Vincent Sheppard Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Lloyd Loom Weaving

If your heart skips a beat at the sight of rattan furniture, then you are going to love Vincent Sheppard’s Lloyd Loom furniture. Made of kraft paper twisted around steel wire, the paper covered wires, acting as threads, are fed into the loom to produce woven sheets of material with a rattan look. The Lloyd Loom woven material offers a smooth, snag free texture, providing more cushioning than rattan. Adding to its appeal, the chip free paper surface can be easily coated in unlimited colours and treated for durable indoor and outdoor usage. The beautiful finish combined with the comfort, durability and versatility of Vincent Sheppard’s Lloyd Loom furniture has made it a popular choice for both the luxury hospitality industry and retailers. When this gorgeous Lloyd Loom furniture by Vincent Sheppard caught our eye at IFFS in Singapore, we had to know more about this fascinating weaving technique. Now celebrating their 100-year anniversary, the Lloyd Loom weaving technique’s history began in 1917 with American furniture designer, Marshall Burns Lloyd, known for his rattan baby carriages. As rattan became less available and more expensive after World War I, Lloyd looked for an alternative to rattan and founded the Lloyd Loom technique of weaving thread made of kraft paper twisted around a thin steel wire producing a woven material with the appearance of rattan. Unlikely did Lloyd realize that his solution would revolutionize the furniture market. The Lloyd Loom patent was purchased by UK furniture manufacturer, William Lusty, in 1922 moving production of Lloyd Loom to the UK. Lloyd Loom furniture became wildly popular in Europe throughout the 1930’s sought out by...
Taking the Gamble out of Premium Holiday Rentals

Taking the Gamble out of Premium Holiday Rentals

One of the biggest hesitations travellers have with booking a luxury home rental is the uncertainty of quality. Are the images a true representation, is the neighbourhood where I want to be, what standards are followed for cleanliness, who will help me if I need something, and what surprises have I not yet considered? These are all questions a traveller considers when reviewing a home rental, and the stakes are higher when that home rental comes at a premium price. London based, onefinestay has addressed these concerns and built their business’s foundation around exceptional quality, a strict code of hospitality standards, convenience, and transparency providing the assurance upscale travellers need. Starting with a vetting process, only 1 in 10 homes are selected based on design that is bursting with character and located in the best neighbourhoods, providing a highly edited charm filled collection. Homes are professionally cleaned and outfitted with onefinestay’s gorgeous collection of high-thread count bedding, towels and toiletries. On arrival, guests are welcomed in person by the local staff, titled “greeters” and given an overview of the property, an explanation of the neighbourhood, wifi passcodes, and an IPhone available for local calls and data, loaded with the home owner’s local recommendations. A handy app puts the local team an arms distance away, like a friend who says, “We are here if you need us”, giving you the independence and confidence to discover this new place as if it was your own. Bookings can be made online or through your favourite travel agent. The online option is extremely easy to use with helpful information including large quality photos...

Mastering the Art of Writing A Thank You Note

Mastering the Art of Writing A Thank You Note

A short time after delivering a gift to a certain friend recently, I received a handwritten letter in the mail…and not just this one time…but every time a gift exchange is made or after a dinner invite.…promptly….on beautiful stationary in her signature handwriting. Was it expected? Never. Will it be cherished? Always. With so many communication channels at your finger tips, nothing will make your thank you stand out more today than a hand written note. But somehow, writing a thank you note for many is tricky, so old school that you may have forgotten what to say and spend too long staring down at that blank notecard or tossing crumbled attempts in the garbage as a slight sense of panic sets in before you quit all together and send an SMS. Behold, there is an easy solution. Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting with Dave Isignitis from Scriptura in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Mr. of the husband and wife (Margaret Jones) team who run a prominent fine paper store in New Orleans, offering an exceptional selection of premium stationary. Southerners take manners seriously, so writing a proper thank you note is well, a must, and these are experts. He says, “ The point of a thank you note is to show appreciation and take the time to write down that you understand what they did for you.” Dave was kind enough to share some tips to writing the perfect thank you note.     3 TIPS TO WRITING THE PERFECT THANK YOU NOTE: 1) Don’t know where to start? Keep it Simple with 4-5 lines: Line 1-Greeting: “Dear” or “Hello”,...
