Born from the Dilmah Family of Tea, Resplendent Ceylon is a boutique luxury hotel company developed out of the owners’ interest in sharing the riches of Sri Lanka with affluent travelers by creating authentic cultural experiences in well-appointed surroundings. The first property opening in the Central Highlands 10 years ago, Ceylon Tea Trails, evolved organically from Dilmah customers’ interest in visiting the tea country for a closer look at how their tea was produced while taking in the exceptional beauty of the evergreen Sri Lankan hilltops. Five original 19th century planter bungalows, now stylishly restored, offer guests a grand experience of Sri Lanka’s tea heritage. Classic colonial traditions are celebrated here, such as “Bed Tea” where your day commences with your butler drawing the curtains letting the sunshine gently waken you while serving you tea in fine porcelain all while you remain in your bed, just as the plantation owners did in the 19th century. What better way is there to start the day? A second property opening in 2015 offers a secluded resort near Galle on the highest southern peak, Cape Weligama. This contemporary new build by Thai Architect Lek Bunnag offers 20 villa style accommodations with breathtaking views of the cape while your personal butler ensures that all your wants are delivered in this serene surrounding. Two more properties are underway, including the Wild Coast Tented Lodge opening December 2016 with 28 lavish jungle tents along a secluded beach in Yala National Park and another property by Lek Bennag slated for 2018 tucked away in the lush forests leading to the Unesco World Heritage site of Sigiriya, including 30 treetop suites overlooking lakes and rice paddy fields. Sustainability and giving back to the community are at the core of their business, and 10% of their profits are returned to local communities through the MJF Foundation and Dilmah Conservation providing education, sustainable resources, and wildlife protection.
